Preparing a Used Vehicle Before Selling

Preparing a Used Vehicle Before Selling

Selling a used car requires the car seller to follow a proper procedure and acquire the necessary details about ways to get the best price. Appropriate research can help car owners attain the required information and determine the best practices to adopt during the process. The car sellers can follow the following steps to ensure that they can sell the vehicle in a hassle-free and convenient manner at a fair price.

One of the most important aspects of the car selling process is how the vehicle is presented to the potential buyer. Therefore, car sellers must spend quality time cleaning and preparing the vehicle to increase the chances of the vehicle selling quickly and at a fair price. The car sellers must undertake the following steps to ensure that the vehicle is prepared.

Work on the Vehicle

Before the car seller begins the process, they must have a look at their used vehicle. A thorough inspection will identify the problems that need to address before the vehicle is sold. Hiring a mechanic for this stage can help car sellers accurately identify the problems and find their solutions. Physical damages such as dents and scratches are visible and can be dealt with easily with minimum expense. Determining the condition of car wheels and whether they need to be replaced can be done by the mechanic.

The mechanical condition impacts the performance of the vehicle so, the components under the hood and their responsiveness during the drive should be checked. Regular maintenance and care are key to minimizing the damage, extend the life of the mechanical components and enjoy a stable ride every time.

Prepare the Vehicle for Showing

After the maintenance and repair efforts have been undertaken, the next stage is to prepare the vehicle before it is shown to a potential buyer. The car seller must organize the interior of the vehicle and remove any irrelevant items and important documents from the vehicle. The vehicle should be given a clean and neutral look.

Cleaning the Exterior

Moreover, a comprehensive wash will ensure that the vehicle is presentable and leaves a lasting impression on the potential buyer. The car can be cleaned by the car seller themselves or taken to a car wash. If the seller does it themselves, they must make sure that the products used a safe and free from contents that can damage the vehicle. If they have any doubts about any products it is best to avoid using them or do a patch test. The car’s exterior must be washed after parking the car in shade and ensuring that the temperature of the vehicle is normal. This will give the car seller ample time to wash the vehicle properly in sections and avoid water spots afterward.

To dry the car, use a microfiber cloth that is soft on the surface. Using a hand-applied car wax will also ensure that the exterior paint is protected from fading due to excessive exposure to UV rays. This is a long-term advantage whereas the short-term benefit of this car wax is the added gloss to the body of the vehicle.

Cleaning the Interior

The interior can be cleaned by using vinyl cleaners on the surfaces and spray-on cleaners on the upholstery. The vinyl cleaners are good enough for cleaning surfaces such as dashboards and consoles. The cleaner can be sprayed on an electrostatic cloth and then the cloth can be used to clean. This is especially recommended for premium amenities of the vehicle including the touchscreens. Touchscreens have an anti-glare and anti-fingerprint coating that needs to be protected, so the cleaner should not be sprayed directly. The upholstery can fade or disintegrate if the cleaner used have chemicals such as chlorine or bleach.

It is better to use a spray-on cleaner to clean the seats instead of washing them. If the seats are washed, then minimize the amount of water. It will take longer for the seats to dry and if the water seeps through the cushions of the seats it may remain there for a long time emitting an unpleasant odor and giving room for molding.

The windows and windshield are also exposed to dirt so they must be thoroughly cleaned using a car specific window cleaner. Try to find a cleaner that does not have ammonia in it as it can damage the protective layer on the glass. Using household alternatives such as glint is also discouraged for the same reason.

Conclusion

Maintaining, cleaning and washing a used car are crucial aspects of the car selling process which should not be skipped. The car seller must undertake each step with care and caution to avoid any damages to the vehicle during the process. This will also ensure that the resale value of the vehicle is improved.
